The Star

Four Sundays before Christmas we hang up a star in every house, here in Greenland ...The light from the star shines on the snow and it looks fantastic beautiful .. The star may only be switched on at midnight.... Now we wait ... Two hours back ...

Last ship to Kuummiut

Our supply vessel Johanna Kristina leaving Kuummiut for the last time in this year .. 2008 ... She will return sometime in late June 2009 .. and resume transport between Tasiilaq and settlements in our part of East Greenland ... The ship is berthed Kuummiut through the summer every Friday. Delivered supplies to the store, mail and passengers .. Now comes winter with pack ice from the north. It attaches itself to be a several hundred kilometer wide strip along the coast, and making any sailing impossible. From now on, we depend on the helicopter, which will arrive to Kuummiut Tuesday and Thursday, if weather permits ... A little sad to wave goodbye and know that the ship first comes again in 7 months ...

Tasiilaq

Family... jobs ... my boat. .. photography and hunting and fishing ... But many of my links gives very good information about Kuummiut and East Greenland ... I would like to write more text, but I had no time...Sorry...

Now there are again photos from East Greenland. I have not been able to lie images into my blog, because I have been hospitalized at the hospital in Tasiilaq, in eight days. Here are some photos from my flight, in the helicopter, to Tasiilaq.

Sledge dogs of the day

Was not on the fjord today... the weather was not so good.. Instead I visited a friend, who had problems with his PC.. On the way over I met several sled dogs... Last year hunters had success with sledriding for tourists.. Here are some of the dogs....

Computers

Two of my students by the computers....Learning how to use Google Translate....32 languages but not Greenlandic...Instead they try to use the Danish language...

We look forward to get 4 computers from a sponsor in West Greenland.

Kuummiut in the moonshine

At 9.10 PM....Many people think it is dark all the time in the wintermonths...But the moonshine on the snow light up the landscape....

November day

Woke up early as usual...Lit the fire in the oven...drank a cup of coffe and thought about todays work.....
At the noon break in school I walked out in the sunshine and looked at the beautiful fjord...

When I walked home, from school, I looked at the dogs they were enjoying the sun, too....

In the afternoon my neighbour came home from the fjord....He had shot a seal...Good for the family and for the hungry dogs...

Before I went to school again, I saw this nice sunset....

The gray building is our "service house". there is a laundry, room for handling furs and a little work shop in the house....It is possible to hire a room (small) for tourists and guests in the setlement.....
The big green building with the white door is our power station.....

Harbour Island

Many boats are laying on harbour island....Most of them have troubles with the outboards....The owners dont't have money enough to get them repaired...No boat...No seals and fish......Then.....NO MONEY.....Many people here are in realy big troubles....
